The Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet took the familiar Nissan Murano crossover and did something almost nobody expected. Nissan simply removed the roof. Introduced for the 2011 model year, it became the world’s first mass-produced convertible crossover SUV. It kept the Murano’s 3.5-liter V6, CVT, and available all wheel drive, but added a power folding soft top and huge two doors. The extra structural reinforcements made it heavy, and its proportions looked unusual for an SUV.

Driving one feels like owning a rolling conversation piece. It is bulky and not particularly sporty, but the idea alone makes it memorable. At a time when SUVs were getting more practical and convertibles were fading away, Nissan tried combining the two anyway.
