The Lexus SC 430 (Z40) is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.3L 3UZ-FE V8 producing 288 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Its aluminum hardtop folds into the trunk, allowing the SC 430 to switch between a conventional grand tourer and an open-top roadster without relying on a separate soft-top mechanism.
The SC 430's unusual combination of a large V8, retractable hardtop, rear-wheel drive, and luxury-focused chassis gave it a character unlike most cars in the Lexus lineup. Its compact two-door body, quiet V8 power delivery, and complex folding roof made the Z40 one of the more distinctive luxury convertibles of the 2000s.
