The Hyundai Veloster JS is a compact front-wheel-drive hatchback with Hyundai's distinctive three-door layout, using a 2.0L naturally aspirated four-cylinder in standard form and a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder in the Veloster Turbo. Transmission choices included a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and 7-speed dual-clutch, depending on the version, while the chassis uses independent front suspension, a torsion-beam rear setup, and four-wheel disc brakes.

The Veloster's unusual one-door-on-the-driver-side and two-door-on-the-passenger-side configuration made it one of the more unconventional compact cars of its time.
