The Chevrolet SSR 2003–2006 is a retro-inspired performance pickup powered by a 5.3L V8, with later models receiving the 6.0L LS2 V8 producing 390 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent through a 6-speed manual or 4-speed/4-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, while the chassis uses an independent front suspension, solid rear axle, four-wheel disc brakes, and a retractable hardtop.
The SSR combined the proportions of a classic pickup with a two-seat roadster-style cabin, retractable hardtop, and V8 power, making it unlike most vehicles in Chevrolet's lineup. Its unusual combination of truck utility, retro styling, performance hardware, and limited production gave the SSR a distinctive place among early-2000s American vehicles.
